Campaigners are expected to rally in Littlehampton tonight against plans for thousands of new homes across Arun.

They will be gathering outside the Civic Centre from 5pm while councillors inside consider proposals, which includes plans for 600 new homes in Angmering. Chair of Angmering’s Actioners Group, Mike Turner said:

“The District Council’s is meant to address the housing requirements of the area but we have discovered the large number of houses they want to build are not really required at all by the local population.   “It’s way above the actual number needed to satisfy local need.

This evening’s meeting of Arun District Council’s Full Council Meeting gets underway from 6pm and will be webcast live. A spokesperson for Arun District Council said:

“Due to Fire Regulations and based on the anticipated attendance numbers at Wednesday’s meeting, there is a possibility that we may not be able to accommodate everyone wishing to attend, so the webcast will provide an alternative for those who are unable to take part in the meeting in person.   “With regard to the protest rally being planned outside the Civic Centre by the Villages Action Group prior to the meeting, we are making preparations to accommodate the protesters by ensuring the car park immediately to the front of the building is clear of vehicles.   “We will ensure a representative from the Council is present during the protest, who will also be available to talk to the media with regard to enquiries relating to the Local Plan.”
