A disabled man in Hailsham has had his wallet stolen in a distraction burglary.
The 52-year-old victim answered the door to another man on Tuesday afternoon (April, 18) between midday and 2.30pm.
The man claimed to be from the council, and said he was checking on the victim’s welfare.
But once inside, the victim became concerned about the man and asked him to leave.
After doing so, the victim noticed his wallet with cash and a bank card inside had gone.
Detective constable Claire Linsell said:
“Anyone who saw this man in the area is asked to contact us.
“Always make sure you ask for identification when someone comes to your door before you let them in.
“Make a call to the company they claim to be from if you are unsure.
“If they are genuine they won’t mind waiting.”
Police said the suspect is described as white, mid 30s and scruffy looking.
