A new 5mph speed limit zone is being introduced for jet skis and speed boats, either side of Eastbourne pier.

Eastbourne’s Seafront team are putting yellow buoys between the Wish Tower and the Redoubt.

The buoys are in place to encourage motor boats to stay further out to sea until September.

A ban is also currently in place on all motorised craft within 100 metres of the beaches during school holidays.

Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said:

“Eastbourne’s waters have been getting busier and busier this season with swimmers and watersports – it’s fantastic to see so many enjoying our beach life!

“The addition of this buoyed line will add some extra protection for swimmers and better zoning of our seafront, as the beaches get even busier.”

Meanwhile, the lifeguard team will be back on Eastbourne beach over the summer holidays.

They will provide first aid, access to an emergency defibrillator and free ‘KidzSafe’ wristbands, and advice on weather and sea conditions.

The sea water at Eastbourne has consistently been rated ‘excellent’ according to the council.

The local authority also said the main resort beach from the pier to the Wish Tower offers the safest bathing water.
