The annual Pirate Day event returns to Hastings on Sunday (July, 16) with a host of activities and swashbuckling fun.

For Pirate Day this year, the Tigers Freefall parachute display team will perform a skydive.

They plan to land on the pier head or the beach, depending on winds.

In 2012 the event set a Guinness world record for the world’s largest gathering of pirates.

This year there will also be an attempt to create the ‘biggest flag known to pirates’.

It will be made up of small flags people can bring along on the day.

Jo Stewart, CEO at Hastings Pier Charity, says:

“We are so excited to be bringing lots of family fun to Hastings Pier for Pirate Day.

“To be involved in such a loved event in the town is a real honour, and working with Roger Crouch has been – as always – an absolute pleasure.

“The skydiving is set to be spectacular, and I look forward to cheering the skydivers on with the crowds as they descend from the skies.”

A host of free entertainment will be held on the day for families.

There will be a drop-in Pirate Circus Skills workshop and live music from Smoking Jacket and Captain’s Beard.

The one and only ‘Cap’n Jack Sparrow’ is also going to hold a Stunt Action Swashbuckling show.

Those who buy tickets for the special ‘VIP deck’ will get the chance to meet the skydivers and ‘Cap’n Jack Sparrow’.

A glass of prosecco then canapes and the ‘best view in the house’ will also be included.

The event begins at 10am, and there is more information at the official Hastings Pirate Day website.
