A 30 year old man has been arrested after a seven hour stand off with Police.

Officers were called to a flat in Garrick Road in Worthing at 3.40pm on Saturday afternoon (August 19).

A spokesperson from Sussex police said it was reported to them that a man was thought to be causing a disturbance.

Officers explained, when they arrived, the man in the flat threatened to harm himself, if they entered the property.

At this point officers began negotiating with him.

A cordon was placed around the flat and around 10.50pm the man was arrested.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Carr said:

“Thankfully no-one was hurt and we’d like to thank the people who live in the area for their patience while we were on scene and speaking with the man.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for a public order offence and remains in custody.”
