Cash has been stolen from a bookmakers in Rye following an armed robbery last night (Wednesday, 23).

A masked man entered Betfred in Cinque Ports Street around 9.15pm, and threatened staff with a suspected firearm, demanding money.

A member of staff then handed over a quantity of cash in notes, before the suspect made off in the direction of The Crown public house.

Police said three customers were also in the store when the incident happened, and no one was injured.

The suspect has been described as a white man, approximately 5’6″ tall, and of a medium build.

He had a slight tan and spoke with a gravelly voice.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood over his head, and a black mask covering the lower half of his face.
