Police are investigating after a group of people, believed to be all men, were in a car which drove into the front facade of a Co-op in St Leonards last night (Monday, 6).

The incident happened in Battle Road just before 11pm.

Officers said there were at least three men in dark clothing wearing balaclavas who got out of the car, believed to have been stolen from Hertfordshire, and walked into the shop with baseball bats and a metal pole.

They caused damage to the shop and attempted, but failed, to remove a free standing ATM machine within.

The three then left the shop in a different white car, believed to be a sports model.

Police said staff were present, but no-one was hurt.
