A teenage girl from Uckfield has died following a collision on the A22 at East Hoathly on Saturday night (November, 11).
Emergency services were called to the southern end of the village bypass just before 9.20pm, but the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said it appears the girl, who is understood to have attended East Hoathly bonfire celebrations that evening, may have been in collision with two vehicles, a Scania lorry and Vauxhall Insignia.
A spokesman for the East Hoathly and Halland Carnival Society said:
“This is dreadfully sad that a young life has been cut short after spending an enjoyable evening at the carnival.
“We are deeply shocked and know that the police are investigating this tragic death.”
The society also said prayers were lead for the family and friends at a Remembrance Sunday Service yesterday (November, 12).
Police said there was considerable disruption on a stretch of the road, which was closed until 4am yesterday morning.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information about the incident is asked to report it online here, or call 101 quoting Operation Gorse.
