The campaign to bring a new skatepark to Bexhill has received a boost from Rother District Council.
Cabinet members agreed a £300,000 increase to the capital programme on Monday (December, 4), to fund the skatepark project.
A multi-use games area and updated BMX track are also planned for the site at Sidley Recreation Ground.
The facility would replace the current skatepark in Down Road if the site is redeveloped.
Skatepark committee member Harry Harmer said:
“This is awesome news.
“The existing facility on Downs Road really is at the end of its useful life – so its great the council are supporting young people in this way”.
The Bexhill Skatepark Action Group said they would now focus on supporting efforts to gain planning permission for the site.
The group are also to provide evidence to support bids for matched funding, including grants from Sport England.
Bexhill and Battle MP Huw Merriman said:
“The news that Rother District Council’s cabinet have recommended a £300,000 cash injection for a new skatepark and multi-use games area is a huge boost for the young, and young at heart, in the district.
“When I visited the existing site in the summer it was clear that investment was needed.”
Councillors will vote on the proposed budget at a council meeting on December, 18.
