A man has died after the car he was a front-seat passenger in crashed into a parked lorry in a lay-by off the A23 at Warninglid.
The 25-year-old from Crawley died following the incident involving a black Nissan Micra around 1.40am on Saturday morning (December, 16).
A 22-year-old woman from Surrey, who was in the back of the car, has been left with serious facial injuries and remains in a critical condition.
The vehicle was being driven by a 29-year-old woman from Surrey who was left with serious leg injuries.
Police said she was released from hospital yesterday afternoon (Sunday, 17).
A 20-year-old man from Copthorne also in the back of the car was slightly injured.
Police said the lorry driver, a 40-year-old man from Nottinghamshire, was unhurt.
A stretch of the A23 was closed following the incident, until some lanes were re-opened around 5am, with the full road opening around 9am.
