An elderly woman using a mobility scooter has had her handbag stolen while out in Steyning.

The 81-year-old was outside The Model Bakery in Church Street shortly before midday last Wednesday (January, 10), when a man ran towards her.

Police said he snatched her handbag from a basket on the front of the scooter, and ran off towards Jarvis Lane through an alleyway passing through Steyning Grammar School.

The light blue handbag was later found dumped in a garden in Jarvis Lane, with £125 in cash missing.

The man has been described as white, aged 18 to 20, 5’10” to 6’1″ tall, and of a thin build.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood raised and grey jeans.
