A black cat has drowned in Eastbourne after it was thrown into the water by a group of young children at Sovereign Harbour.

It happened at around 9pm on Sunday (January, 14) near The Harvester at North Lock Side in Pacific Drive.

Police said the incident is being treated as a malicious act.

Rosie’s Register, a local voluntary group which helps lost & found cats, has said it’s believed two of the children, a boy and a girl, were under the age of eight, while an older boy was around 12 or 13.

The group are also thanking those who helped to collect the cat’s body.
