A woman has been left with serious spinal injuries following a collision that closed the A23 southbound at Sayers Common on Saturday afternoon (January, 20).

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 4pm, after a Mini One and Citroen C4 Picasso collided.

The Mini, which the 53-year-old woman from Hove was driving, is then reported to have rolled a number of times, and the woman had to be cut from her vehicle.

Her passenger, a 54-year-old woman also from Hove, suffered minor injuries, as did the 31-year-old man driving the Citroen and his 29-year-old female passenger, both from Gravesend in Kent.

Police said all four were taken to hospital in Brighton for treatment.

The southbound carriageway was closed following the incident, and was reopened at 7.45pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information is asked to report it online here, or call 101 quoting Operation Broadstairs.
