A man has been arrested after a suspicious device was found on an area of riverbank along the River Ouse in Lewes this morning (Wednesday, 21).
Officers were called to the area near the Tesco supermarket around 8.30am, and discovered an item which led them to call the bomb squad.
A team from explosive ordnance disposal then attended this afternoon, and discovered the item to be a commercially available pyrotechnic.
A cordon put in place was removed just before 2pm.
The 39-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of making an explosive device for an unlawful purpose.
He currently remains in custody.
