Fire crews are currently at the scene of a serious fire at a warehouse in Portslade this morning (Thursday, 15), with eight engines in attendance.

Emergency services are currently tackling the fire in a store room of Chandler’s Building Supplies in Basin Road.

Officials are currently advising the public to avoid the area due to large amounts of smoke, while Sussex Police have put road closures in place.

Chandlers said no-one has been hurt.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“The fire service is working at getting the situation under control.

“It appears that the fire started early this morning.

“We do not know any further details at this stage.

“Most importantly, nobody has been harmed or injured.

“Our Lewes and Ringmer branches are the closest branches and are open for business as usual.”

Police said a diversion is in place for traffic from St Keyna Avenue to Wish Road.
