A man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was attacked by a group armed with baseball bats and crow bars in Crawley.

The 44-year-old victim was standing within a walkway in Somerley Drive using his mobile phone around 10.30pm last night (Monday, 9), when a silver Ford Focus pulled up beside him.

A group of three or four men, all with faces covered, then got out, walked over to him and beat him.

They then made off in the car.

The victim was taken to East Surrey Hospital with a broken arm and serious head injury, and was later transferred to St George’s Hospital in London.

Detective Inspector Jon Robeson said:

“This was a violent attack which has left the victim in a critical condition.

“We want to hear from anyone who witnessed this or has any information about the suspects of the vehicle they were using.”
