Police have arrested a man in connection with the attempted abduction of a young girl in Brighton city centre.
The eight-year-old was turning into Tidy Street around 8.25am on Saturday morning (May, 5) when it happened, having been to post a letter at a letter box in nearby North Road.
A man ran up and grabbed hold of the victim, before pushing her to the ground.
However, this was seen by two people passing by, who shouted at the man, and he ran off in the direction of Trafalgar Street.
Police said the girl was severely shocked, and was left with some grazes, but she did not need hospital treatment.
A 24-year-old local man arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction remains in custody.
