A Twitter crackdown on "locked" accounts has lead to some of its most high profile users losing millions of followers.

The social media site said it took the decision to build trust, amid growing concern around fake news and bots on the platform.

Accounts are locked for unusual activity, such as tweeting a large amount of unsolicited replies or mentions.

Twitter said most people would only lose around four followers… but some of the most famous people on the planet lost a few more than that.
