 Here are the amazing winners:

Charity of the Year Award with The Langney Shopping Centre

This award went to an organisation that received a huge number of nominations. As our judging panel read through those nominations, it became clear very quickly that this charity plays a huge role in the lives of many adults across the Eastbourne area – offering support, training, and developmental opportunities to many who may otherwise struggle to find employment. What is clear is that this charity really has made a difference to the people it exists to support.

The winner was:

The Chalk Farm Learning Disabilities Centre

Courage Award with East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service

This year, our Courage Award went to a young man who has shown incredible resilience, determination and bravery in the face of huge adversity. Refusing to ever give up, he is now very much the model patient, trialling a medical treatment that has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of many other young people. Always positive, he’s not only extremely brave, he also is an inspiration to those lucky enough to know him.

The winner was:

Kieren Browning

Inspiration Award with Shades Restaurant

We wanted to hand this award to someone who really defines the word ‘Inspiration’. This man has made some huge sacrifices to ensure others can get to experience a better quality of life – you could even say his generosity has potentially saved someone’s life. The nominations we received also painted a picture of one of life’s good guys – warm, friendly, and with a heart of gold.

The winner was:

Vincent Adams

Fundraiser of the Year Award with The Arndale Shopping Centre

It was an honour to recognise a lady whose determination to support a much loved and important local facility led to her raising literally thousands of pounds. When a previously council-run amenity became a charity, it was clear that the enthusiasm and drive of a few dedicated individuals would be key to its survival. Our winner tonight really stepped up to meet the challenge head on.

The winner was:

Kate Daly

Lifetime Achievement Award with Kind Hands Caring Service

So what was it about the winner of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award that made him such a worthy recipient? Well, he has worked tirelessly in the town for nearly 30 years, heading up expansions and developments that have really put Eastbourne on the map, whilst also doing a huge amount of work for charity – to date he has been involved in initiatives that have raised over three hundred thousand pounds. Much-loved by his staff and those that have been fortunate enough to work with him over the years, he is a man who is respected and admired by all who come into contact with him.

The winner was: Bill Plumridge

Parent In A Million Award with Room 2 Let

It was an honour to recognise not just one parent, but two. Any busy working parents will know that being able to call on the support of Grandparents can be invaluable. But when one of those Grandparents is seriously ill, that support can be difficult to give. Unless of course, you are this years winners. Always putting others first, the parents we honoured demonstrate courage and determination that never goes unappreciated.

The winners were:

Annette And Geoff Ackland

Chris Copsey Gold Award with McDonalds

The Chris Copsey Gold Award recognised a special lady who has dedicated many years giving her time and expertise to help people in need right across the world. Working in places like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, our winner has made it her life’s work to provide support and medical care to vulnerable patients suffering from a truly horrific disease.

The winner was:

Dr. Ruth Butlin

Sporting Excellence Award with Trimseal

The Sporting Excellence Award for 2018 went to someone who is every inch a local lad made good. Born in Eastbourne back in 1994 it was clear from an early edge that when it came to football, he wasn’t just good – he was special. After joining Crystal Palace at age 11, he later played for his hometown club Eastbourne Borough and then Lewes, when at the age of 17 he was offered a scholarship by Brighton & Hove Albion. He would later sign full professional forms, making his first team debut in the 2013/14 season. Four years later he is a Premier League player and and England Under 21 International, having made more than 100 Albion appearances and scoring 8 goals along the way.

Watch the video below, to see what his manager, Chris Hughton, had to say about him.

The winner was:

Top Teacher Award with Di Lietos Coffee Lounge

So what was it about the winner of this year’s Top Teacher Award that made her such a stand out candidate? Our winner is a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator who has demonstrated both empathy and understanding for the children she has worked with, as well as providing much needed and valuable support to parents. The effect she has had on the families she has come into contact with has extended far beyond the work she has done in the classroom.
