Vandalism at a playground in Hastings has cost the town more than six thousand pounds, according to the Borough Council.

Over 100 timber posts have been pulled out of the ground or snapped in half in Alexandra Park in Hastings.

This damage has temporarily closed the children’s playground.

The local authority says they are working hard to get the play space back into full use.

Short-term repairs have been carried out in order to keep the lower area open to the public.

Colin Fitzgerald, lead councillor for environment said:

“As one of the council’s most popular children’s playgrounds, such vandalism is particularly upsetting for the many children locally who enjoy playing in Alexandra Park and use it as a place for fresh air and exercise.”

The Borough Council say some vandalism has been happening intermittently at the park, but the damage got worse last week.

The council are appealing for any information or any witnesses to the damage to come forward.

Anyone who may be able to help is asked to contact Hastings police using the crime reference number WEB-N96-VH5-6Q.
