A train in West Sussex has run over a railway level crossing barrier near Billingshurst.

It followed a collision between a car and the level crossing on the Arun Valley line this morning.

About thirty passengers on the train were evacuated, and continued their journeys by taxi, according to the railway operator.

There were no injuries.

A vehicle collided with a level crossing and knocking the barrier into the path of the 08:36 London Victoria to Portsmouth service.

Southern Rail say all trains between Horsham and Barnham have been stopped until 3 o’clock this afternoon.

This includes part of the West Coastway line.

Rail replacement buses are operating between these stations.


The line between Horsham and Barnham remains blocked whilst this incident is being investigated by Emergency Response staff.
