Classic steam engine, the Stanier Black 5 Steam is on its way to Sussex from London today (November 27).

The Christmas Sussex Belle tour, run by the Railway Touring Company, is scheduled to be hauled by a Stanier Black 5 steam engine, built in 1945.

Organisers say it’ll depart London Victoria shortly before 11am, heading to Eastbourne via Gatwick Airport and Lewes.

The festive rail tour departs London Victoria at 10.50am on Tuesday, November 27, heading to Eastbourne via Gatwick Airport and Lewes.

The LMS Class 5, 4-6-0, was introduced by William Stanier in 1934, with 842 of the locomotives being built by 1951.

Of the 18 which have been preserved, five are mainline certified.

The return journey runs diesel hauled from Eastbourne to Hastings, where the train will reverse.

The Black Five locomotive will then lead the train out towards Tonbridge and South East London, finishing at Victoria.

Alighting at Eastbourne, the Arndale shopping centre is just a two minute walk away or for those itching for a breezy walk along the beach, an additional walking time of ten minutes via the high street.

The train arrives back at London Victoria at 17.39pm.
