Firefighters tackle second incident at Westhampnett waste site

Fire breaks out at recycling centre near Chichester
A second fire has broken out at a recycling site near Chichester.

Firefighters have dealt with a second incident at a recycling site near Chichester, just weeks after after a major blaze at the site.

West Sussex fire crews from Chichester and Bognor were called to the Westhampnett Household Waste Recycling Site shortly after 7pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, 15).

Officials said on arrival, a refuse truck was alight near the main building.

Crews worked through the evening and the fire was successfully extinguished.

A week-long operation took place at the site last month, after hundreds of tonnes of waste went up in flames in the main building.
