A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued across Sussex which may bring flooding to some parts of the county.
Met Office forecasters said the storms are expected to develop around 1pm this afternoon (Wednesday, 12) and die down by 11pm tonight.
Meteorologists warn there may be some travel disruption, with spray and sudden flooding possibly leading to difficult driving conditions.
Today’s warning stated:
“Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
“Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.
“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
“Some communities might become cut off if roads flood.
“Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
Forecasters said by midnight, showers should become isolated with the possibility of some mist during the night.
