Romanian national arrested on suspicion of murder of woman in Sussex to be extradited to the UK

Man struck unconscious and robbed in Crawley Memorial Gardens

A Romanian national, arrested in his home country on suspicion of the murder of a woman in Sussex, will be brought back to the UK to face trial.

Cristian Sabou, 27, was detained yesterday morning (Wednesday, 10) at his address in Dej, on suspicion of the murder of Valerie Graves in Bosham in December 2013.

The 55-year-old mother and grandmother was staying at a property in Smugglers Lane when she was found murdered in her bedroom.

Mr Sabou, who was served with a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), appeared at an extradition proceeding hearing in Cluj-Napoca today (Thursday, 11).

Police said he did not contest the application to extradite him and arrangements will now be made to bring him to the UK.

Detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team were present at the hearing and remain in Romania working with the authorities there.
