Sussex Police have concluded enquiries into a ‘hazardous material’ incident which closed part of Worthing seafront yesterday (Sunday, 11), despite the cause still being unknown.
A cordon was set up between Grand Avenue and Windsor Road with part of the seafront closed, including the town’s pier, following a number of people reporting symptoms of sore eyes and vomiting.
As a result, two people were take to hospital, before later being discharged.
Officers said following extensive searches of the seafront, including a drone and foot patrols, there was no evidence of anything that led to a ‘reasonable explanation’ of what happened.
A spokesperson said:
“We are satisfied we have explored all lines of enquiry and there is no further involvement for police.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while police cordons were in place.”
Anyone with concerns is asked to contact Adur and Worthing councils’ public health team on 01903 221064.
