Three men have reportedly been hit by a car in Brighton, leaving two of them with serious head injuries.

Police were called to a report of a large group of people fighting with weapons in Marine Parade, Brighton, at 5.20am yesterday (1 December).

As officers were responding, it was reported that some of the group had got into a vehicle which then struck three men involved in the fight – they were taken to hospital.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is in custody. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

Detective Inspector Chris Thompson said:

“This is a fast-moving investigation and we are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area between 4am to 5.30am and seen the incident or has any information about it to come forward.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may have mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident to please get in touch with us.

“Marine Parade is currently closed between the pier roundabout and Camelford Street while we carry out enquiries and I would like to thank the public for their patience.”

The incident is not terror-related.

The area of Marine Parade from the Pier roundabout to Camelford Street will remained closed today (2 December). Residents will not be able to remove their vehicles from the area until police have completed their enquiries into what they’re describing as ‘a serious incident’.

If you can help with the investigation please report online or ring 101 quoting Operation Danebridge.
