Police have confirmed a man has been arrested after a stand-off in Worthing’s Broadwater that lasted six hours.
Officers, including armed specialists, joined other emergency services in attending a property in Broadwater Street West around 8.35am this morning (Thursday, 16).
Police said concerns were expressed for a man who was threatening to harm himself.
A stand-off then began, as the man refused police invitations to leave the flat.
Officers said he emerged from the property just before 2.30pm.
One man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, and on suspicion of making threats to cause criminal damage.
According to police, he remains in custody as an investigation continues.
Adur and Worthing Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter said:
“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we were dealing with this incident and apologise for any inconvenience caused by part of the road being closed.
“This was an isolated incident, not involving a firearm, contained within the property with no wider threat to the community, including the local schools.”
