‘Talented and dedicated’ Sussex nursing assistant dies after testing positive for Covid-19

Tributes have been paid to a Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust nursing assistant who died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Chief executive Michael Wilson CBE said Ruben Muñoz died on Friday (April, 17) after working for the trust for the past nine years.

Wilson said:

“Ruben was a highly respected and talented nursing assistant who showed enormous dedication to caring for his patients every time he walked through our doors.

“He was also a much-loved friend to so many people across our hospital and our team are incredibly saddened by his passing.

“All of our thoughts are with Ruben’s family and we have been in touch with them to express our profound sorrow and condolences.”

Ruben’s family have shared the following tribute:

“Ruben is a good son, a beloved husband and an amazing father to his two children.

“He was so proud of his NHS and Woodland Ward family.”

A fundraiser was also set up to assist Ruben’s grieving family.

The organiser wrote:

“I am asking you, my dear colleagues, friends, and the public to please try and generously raise money to cover funeral costs and to support a grieving family through an extremely difficult time.

“Especially as we will be unable to attend due to the current pandemic.

“I understand these are financially hard times and there are lots of other fundraisers currently running but even the smallest donation will be appreciated.

“It is the least we can all do to show sympathy and help to his family.

“We look forward to your support and kindness.

“Thank you.

“Rest in Paradise, Kuya Ruben!

“The Woodland Ward family will remember you forever! xxx”
