Man arrested in connection with armed robbery in East Grinstead

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in East Grinstead at the weekend.

Officers said the victim – a 20-year-old man – was walking along Lewes Road on Sunday (April, 26) when he was approached at the junction with Herontye Drive by two men on a motorbike.

Police said the suspects allegedly threatened the victim with a weapon – thought to be an air rifle – and demanded that he hand over his belongings.

They then made off towards Ashurst Wood.

Officers said the victim was unharmed but was left shaken by the incident.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of a firearm and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

He remains in custody for questioning at this time.
