Man dies after timber falls from lorry onto car in Newhaven

A man has died after timber fell from a lorry on to the car he was driving in Newhaven this morning (Wednesday, 13).

Police have arrested a man from Eastbourne following the incident in New Road just after 7.30am.

Emergency services were called to the driver of a BMW – a 28-year-old man from Burgess Hill – who died at the scene.

A 32-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in custody this afternoon.

Police said the road remains closed for recovery and investigation work at this time.
