Firefighters from both East Sussex and West Sussex were joined by crews from Hampshire as they tackled significant blazes in at least two separate places on Thursday evening (April 22).
Around 200 square metres of grass caught light on the South Downs near Devils Dyke Road yesterday evening.
Firefighters from at least ten locations in both East and West Sussex attended the scene near Poynings around 6pm.
Smoke could be seen from many miles around, before crews said they were damping down final hotspots around 9 o'clock.
But later, a further call to duty came in from north of Chichester.
Crews from West Sussex and Hampshire put out flames in a commercial building near West Dean.
The fire, near Chilgrove Road north of Chichester, was brought under control around midnight, having been reported shortly after sunset.
