The A27 between Hollingbury and Falmer was closed both ways last night, following a lorry fire.
Traffic was badly affected in the area last night as emergency services attempted to put out a serious HGV fire.
Crews from East Sussex Fire & Rescue were called at 5.52pm yesterday (Oct 16th) to reports of the blaze on the eastbound carriageway by Coldean Lane / Hollingbury.
The westbound lane re-opened at 9.30pm, but the eastbound side stayed closed until early this morning.
The HGV was carrying beer and the Environment Agency was tasked with clearing the spillage of beer and diesel from the road.
Pictures released by Sussex Police show the lorry completely burnt out inside:
The road finally opened up again at around 6.30am this morning, following a clean-up by highways agencies.
Nobody was injured.
