Appeal launched for help to complete new Scouts Community Centre

Construction work on a new Scouts Community Centre in Bentswood, Haywards Heath is due to begin in March - but help is needed in the project’s completion

Mid Sussex District Scouts have announced the construction of a new Community Centre in Bentswood, Haywards Heath. Set to become the first new community building in the area for over a decade, the Community Centre will bring together a variety of local groups, including Mid Sussex District Scouts and The Bentswood Hub CIC, who provide a variety of activities for a range of age groups.

Planning permission has been granted for the Community Centre to be located at Barn Cottage Green, on Barn Cottage Lane in Haywards Heath, with a groundbreaking ceremony set to take place on March 6th at 4:00pm. Alison Bennett MP will be in attendance at the ceremony, along with local residents and families.

Mark Scholfield, District Commissioner for Mid Sussex Scouts, said:

"We are delighted to announce the start of an inspiring, practical and regenerative community centre. This is a transformative new approach to building a vital new community centre. Our joint vision for the new community centre is one connecting social wellbeing, economic prosperity and local nature, creating significant impact for generations to come. Only by working together have we been able to make this project a reality."

The organisation has already raised £664,000 of the £731,000 total needed to complete the construction work, but are appealing for help in meeting the £67,000 shortfall – whether that be financial donations, materials, or assistance from local tradespeople.

“Suitable local businesses might be able to donate materials”, said Mr. Scholfield, adding that “local tradespeople might be able to donate time to help us do the final fitout and cover this shortfall.”
