Applications Open For New Fire Cadet Programme In West Sussex

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is trialling a new programme for Fire Cadets and is looking for young people aged between 13 and 17 to apply.

Those successful will be joining a new Fire Cadet unit, based at Bognor Regis Fire Station, to take part in activities inspired by the role and responsibilities of a firefighter, such as completing firefighting drills and learning first aid.

Organisers say each cadet will also 'gain essential social, life, work and wellbeing skills'.

The course is being trialled for one-year and this cohort of cadets will help to shape what a future programme may look like.

Nathan Cross, Head of Prevention, said:

“Through Fire Cadets we aim to create unique and exciting opportunities for young people. Each cadet will come away from the course having gained vital life skills and realising their full potential.

“As well as having lots of fun and making new friends, our cadets will learn about the importance of fire safety, how to make positive life choices, and they will get to try out firefighting equipment.

“The programme is open to all young people, all you have to be is willing to challenge yourself, have fun and work as a team.”

The new Bognor Regis Fire Cadet unit will be open from September 10 and the team will meet on Tuesday evenings during school term time, 6pm – 8pm.

To apply for the Fire Cadet programme, you should complete an online application form by July 19. Application forms must be completed by the young person, and interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.
