Bognor Firefighters Take On 'Pier To Pier' Challenge Overnight For Charity

Two firefighters from Bognor Regis Fire Station are trekking overnight on Wednesday (2) between Bognor Regis Pier to Brighton Pier, to raise money for two charities.

Jordan O’Hara and Mollie Bennett are setting off after sunset on Wednesday (2) from Bognor on a socially distanced walk.

The pair will make the journey to Brighton pier and back again wearing full fire kit and breathing apparatus.

They are hoping to complete the 60 mile route in around 20 hours.

It's in memory of Jordan's grandmother, who passed away earlier this year and money raised from their JustGiving page will go to St Barnabas House and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Jordan said:

"My Nana Pat was not only the person who solely brought me up, but also my best friend.

"Raising money in her memory for these two wonderful charities is the least I can do to say the biggest thank you to her and to the amazing support and care she received from the team at St Barnabas.

"It was truly unbelievable and I will be forever in debt for their kindness, compassion and care they provided for her last three weeks with us at home."

Mollie said:

"It is going to be a tough challenge, especially in full fire kit at this time of year, but if we are able to raise a decent amount of money for these two wonderful charities it will all be worth it.

"It has been a difficult year for a lot of people, and we all know someone who has been supported by these two causes. So if we can make something good out of this bad situation it will all be worthwhile."

Phil Maynard is West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s charity champion for The Fire Fighter’s Charity.

He said:

"60 miles of overnight walking is going to be challenging in itself, but factor in the weight of a full set of fire kit and breathing apparatus, and you can see that this is going to become quite the challenge for Jordan and Mollie.

"I know they have both been training very hard in anticipation for this event, and I would like to wish them all the best – we will all be cheering them along their way.”
