A member of the public assisted a police officer outside Churchill Square Shopping Centre last week when he jumped into the passenger seat to catch up with a fleeing suspect.
Reports of two boys being robbed by a group of teenagers, brought police officers to Western Road in Brighton at around 7.40pm on Saturday, July 2.
Hearing that one was carrying a knife and the other a baseball bat, an officer quickly arrested a suspect in Clarence Square.
However, another suspect was thought to be back in Western Road, on the other side of Churchill Square.
The officer 'leapt into the passenger seat' of a member of the public’s car, who drove them back round to catch the suspect before he could escape.
A 14-year-old boy from Bognor Regis was arrested on suspicion of robbery and carrying an offensive weapon. A 16-year-old boy from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of cannabis.
Both have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
