A stretch of Brighton Beach west of the Palace Pier re-opened this evening (Sunday 18 April), after a suspected World War II unexploded mortar was "washed away" by the sea.
Police had earlier cordoned-off a section of the beach and promenade after an "item of ordnance" was discovered.
Officers then called-in a bomb disposal team.
However, it was reported that the sea itself had caused the device to be swept away from the beach.
In liaison with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, police then removed the cordon around sunset.
