Organisers of the Brighton Marathon tweeted yesterday to confess that their course was actually 568m too long.
We would like to apologise to our marathon participants that the course today has measured 568m too long. We are wholly disappointed that this has affected our runners & hope that it hasn’t marred the experience, at what has been a fantastic comeback after event after 18 months.

What followed were over 100 comments with mixed emotions over what had happened.
Many were miffed that their timing was off, but just as many were happy to be able to participate in the event after such a long break.
Over 12,000 runners take part in the event each year, which starts at Preston Park, snaking through Brighton City Centre and ending at Madeira Drive, with major road closures all over the city.
The event includes a a 10K run, a 50km cycle and Mini Mile races for kids.
Many runners were running for charities such as the NSPCC, MIND, The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, as well as for local charities such as Chestnut Tree House.
