Brighton Residents Gather For Sit-In At Brighton Station Calling For Immediate Arms Embargo

Local residents gathered at 5:30pm Thursday evening holding placards and chanting "hands off the middle east" "no more arms trade" and "when Lebanon is under attack, what do we do? Stand up fight back!".

Members of different local activist groups, including Brighton Stop The War, Sussex for Palestine Campaign and Stop L3Harris spoke at the demo, along with members of the crowd.

These included a young woman from Lebanon who said her father "would be over the moon" seeing all the Lebanese flags, and spoke to the crowd about her family in Lebanon having to take shelter in schools in order to eat.

She said Lebanon has always agreed to a ceasefire so long as Israel stand down "and they continuously refuse to".

Campaigners are demanding for the local factory to be shut down, as well as calling for the UK government to agree to a full arms embargo.

This follows the UK government's decision to suspend 8% of arms export licenses to Israel (30 out of approx. 350 licenses) and making the significant exclusion of F-35 components, stating they would maintain the important commitment to the F-35 programme.
