Hayling Island coastguards with two RNLI volunteer crews from the same place carried out a rescue yesterday after reports of three canoeists struggling in the water near Chichester Marina.
Coastguards said they began responding to information from the marina at 11.45am yesterday morning (31 December).
One casualty, who had taken in some water, was noted to be very cold and was believed to be undergoing hypothemia.
Lifeboat volunteers and coastguard officers stretchered the casualty to a waiting ambulance for medical treatment.
