The award-winning Buskerteers Choir, which has 24 choirs across Southeast England, banded together this October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In a twist on the #WearItPink campaign, our choir leaders have been wearing anything pink that choir members bring us to wear in rehearsals - with some striking results! Members have also been raising funds at their local choir practices with charity raffles and collections.
The Buskerteers choirs have now raised an impressive £3,500 for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer charity.
Katherine Stewart, choir leader of the Sussex Buskerteers choirs, said:
“Our members have really embraced this cause. Some have direct experience of Breast Cancer themselves, so we’re keen to do anything we can to raise funds and awareness - and have fun while we do it!”
As a community choir, Buskerteers choirs are open to anyone with a love for music—no auditions, no need to read music, and no pressure to sing solo. The choir learns songs by rote and in three-part harmony, creating an inclusive environment for all, while providing professional vocal training.
The Buskerteers' mission is to raise £1 million for charity through busking and performing.
