Coronavirus: The latest developments in Sussex (Friday, May 1)

Here’s all the coronavirus related news that’s gone on in Sussex over the last 24 hours. As of Friday (May, 1) at 6am, the following figures are the known number of Covid-19 cases in each district: Brighton and Hove: 355 East Sussex: 570 West Sussex: 1,100 Total: 2,025 Human trials for Covid-19 vaccine A biotech company in Burgess Hill has launched an appeal for an investment of £6million to start human trials of a new drug they're developing against coronavirus. With funding, the company said they think they could have the capsule ready by the end of the year. Read more here. Fines in Sussex Police said they issued 348 fines across the county for breaches of public health regulations. Latest figures show 189 FPNs issued in the past two weeks, of which 43 were last Sunday (April, 26) when many people travelled to the county on day trips. 999 and 101 calls are lower than the same period last year, at around 25% and 14%, but online reports have tripled. Jack In The Green festival The May Day celebration in Hastings has moved online, starting today there will be live streamed events across the weekend. Annually the town gets together to celebrate the coming of summer with Morris dancing, wild costumes and 'general merriment'.

Sussex Households with low incomes in Sussex, or people isolating for health reasons, can get essential household goods from the local Now! charity.
