Brighton & Hove City Council have cleared tents pitched near the i360, after residents complained they were an eyesore and attracting drug taking and anti-social behaviour.

Sorry, it doesn't look like there's any photos here just yet.

The eviction, which made national newspapers today, was sanctioned after councillors threatened the campers with fines, but to no avail.

Finally, due to worsening weather, councillors deemed it unsafe for them to continue camping on the beach and officials cleared the tents away.

A report on the Mail Online today, said residents had reported seeing camp dwellers openly injecting drugs, defecating on a nearby beach groyne and having a fist fight in view of children with their families.

The report added that the council had been in discussions with the two men living at the camp and the eviction had happened with the dwellers' permission with camping gear disposed of or returned to them at the owner's request.

It added, in a quote by councillor Gill Williams, that they had taken into account the camper's circumstances and welfare needs before removing them.
