Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was attacked in Crawley on Wednesday night (June 1).
Officers arrived in Chanctonbury Way shortly after 10pm after reports were made about a woman having suffered serious head injuries, inflicted with a weapon.
She was taken to hospital and a suspect - a 30-year-old man from Crawley - was identified and arrested.
He has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
Investigating officer Detective James Reilly said:
“We understand that incidents such as these are concerning, but I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident with no wider risk of harm.
“There has been an increased police presence in the area over the last few days while forensic investigations are carried out and we thank the public for their patience and understanding.
“Anybody who witnessed Wednesday’s incident or has any information which could help with the investigation is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Clifford.”
