A fire in the roof and first floor of a property in Southbourne brought firefighters from both West Sussex and Hampshire on Saturday night (October 16).
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) said flames had caught hold in a terraced house in Second Avenue in the town.
Following the incident, an investigation found the fire started due to candles being burnt on a windowsill, which set fire to curtains.
A spokesperson said two other properties were also damaged, though a witness, news photography professional Eddie Mitchell, described the firefighters' operation as a "good stop by crews stopping fire spreading [...] — lots of hard work."
Crews from Bognor, Chichester, Selsey and across the border in Hampshire used an aerial ladder platform, four jets, three hose reels, and six sets of breathing apparatus, among other equipment.
Police and SECAmb ambulance paramedics also attended.
So far, WSFRS has released no information about any possible injuries.
