‘Defective’ fire safety equipment at Splashpoint Leisure Centre is set to be updated for £150,000.
Fire and security safety system provider Gemini AMPM is to be contracted to replace old fire dampers at the centre in Brighton Road, Worthing, according to a decision by Worthing Borough Council’s assistant director of regenerative development.
The contract, totalling £155,757.87, is for phase one of a series of repairs and maintenance for the fire dampers at Splashpoint, which are built to close in the event of a fire to prevent the spread of smoke through the centre’s ventilation system.
Within the decision, the council said:
“The fire dampers at the Splashpoint Leisure Centre have suffered corrosion and are in various states of disrepair. Replacement and repair of the fire dampers is required to maintain a safe environment for users and staff.
“A specialist Consulting Engineer has been appointed to prepare a prioritised programme of works. This is the first Phase of repairs”.
The decision will come into effect on Thursday, February 13 if it is not called in for further scrutiny before then.
