A woman aged 82 has become the victim of a distraction burglary in East Grinstead, at the hands of a con-man who claimed to be "from the water board".
That's according to police who are investigating the reported crime — where a burglar stole bank cards and cash from the woman's property in Estcots Drive.
It's after the victim opened the door to the offender, and allowed him in, at around 2.30pm on October 26.
Officers described the suspect as a "white male with a slight tan", around 5'8" tall, of a stocky build, and aged around 40.
He spoke with a London accent, and was wearing entirely black clothing with a black beanie-style hat.
In past cases, Sussex Police have pointed out that "water boards" were all privatised in 1989, becoming water companies.
Therefore, no visitor claiming to be "from the water board" can possibly be genuine.
Police have appealed for information to be given either on-line, or by calling 101 quoting 820 of 26/10.
