The Devonshire Quarter will be lighting up the festive season with a brand new sound and light show, celebrating Christmas in Eastbourne.
The free outdoor Son et Lumiere will be projected onto the front of the Congress Theatre with 20 minute shows each evening, retelling a famous Christmas story, from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 December.
With festive music, lights, animation and some surprises along the way, the thrice nightly show will run at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm each evening, and can be viewed from the Devonshire Quarter plaza in front of the theatre, providing some feelgood festive fun for theatre-goers, visitors and residents alike.
Suitable for all ages, the free show is timed to mark the start of this year’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty, as well as Christmas Jumper Day on 10 December.
Outdoor stalls will also offer festive food and drink, with Christmas music from 4.30pm each evening, until the final show at 7pm.
The new event is one of the festive activities being funded by the European Regional Development Fund, via the government’s Welcome Back Fund this Christmas, with an interactive LED Christmas tree, Christmas event marshals and additional Christmas lighting in the town centre also being funded.
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture, Cllr Margaret Bannister said:
“Eastbourne is really gearing up for a sensational Christmas, from a real Ice Rink to the return of our award-winning Panto and now the launch of our first ever Devonshire Quarter Son et Lumiere.
"This really is the perfect opportunity to make your day in Eastbourne extra special, adding a touch of magic at the end of a memorable day out with the family, or kicking off your evening in style with some festive fun.”
The show is produced by Crown Events Ltd, the people behind many popular sound and light projections including those at Firle Place, Cardiff Castle and Chichester Cathedral.
The Eastbourne Christmas Son et Lumiere sound and light show runs from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 December at the Devonshire Quarter plaza with performances on the front of the Congress Theatre at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Entry is free, with festive music from 4.30pm.
