A 70-year-old woman has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after a property was set on fire in St Leonards. Marie Knight, of Salisbury Road, St Leonards, was arrested and charged for arson after firefighters rescued her from the blaze in Salisbury Road on January 22. Crews from Hastings, The Ridge, and Bexhill attended the incident. An investigation into the fire found that it was started deliberately. Officials say she was also ordered to make a contribution towards the Voluntary Witness Service. Richard Moon, Lead Fire Investigator for ESFRS, said: "East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service have a small team of highly trained fire investigation Officers who regularly assist Sussex Police in the investigation of crimes involving arson. "This conviction represents the hard work of this team and their dedicated service to their community".
